About this resource:
This module consists of six practical and six theory lessons, each developing students' understanding of Overdrive by Richard Alston. The lessons have been created for Key Stage 4 study and have been created to underpin the subject matter learning required for this key stage, both practically and theoretically.
Students will study a variety of principles evident in Overdrive, as well as learn repertoire and develop movement that will build on the different facets of their creative ability.
The films for each lesson will help underpin the learning and students will experience movement that is presented to them both in the rehearsal studio and a formal performance environment.
The theory lessons are designed to guide the student into the work and ideally should be taught alongside the practical lessons if possible. Each theory lesson will guide the student through the constituent features of the work culminating in a well rounded understanding. The final theory lesson draws everything together, setting up a response to an extended essay question.
Students will have many opportunities to utilise and develop their skills through a range of activities and levels.
Teachers are advised that they may find the following music suggestions useful as an alternative accompaniment in repertoire activities:
- Tom's Diner (Susan Vega – karaoke or instrumental version)
- Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed – karaoke or instrumental version)
- Electric Counterpoint (Steve Reich)
